Upholstery Cleaning Advice

I normally put the cushion covers from my suite in the washing machine - is this ok?

Filling does not always go back in correctly
We do not advise this as the zips are fitted on cushions for the ease of the upholsterer to put the filling material into the covers and NOT for the general public to take off to wash.
* These zips can easily break.

* The covers can shrink making it difficult to get the filling material back in.

Also some washing powders can fade the colours of the cushions giving a less pleasing appearance to the item of furniture.

Arms soiled by food, drinks and pets
After all your frame and arms of your suite get dirty too and you can`t put them in the washing machine so there will be a visible difference over time between your cushions and your frame. Arms get grubby through general use - dirty hands, newspaper print, food and drink spillages, and of course our beloved pets resting on them.

We charge on average £25.00 per arm chair and £20 per seat on sofa`s.

Money well spent protecting your investment don`t you think?

Carpet Cleaning Misconceptions: No 4

I’ve been told that my carpets will shrink, will this happen?

Some types of carpet can shrink if adequate precautions are not carried out or poor cleaning procedures are carried out. Our cleaning technicians will always pre-qualify and inspect the carpet prior to any cleaning taking place.
During this inspection any risk of potential shrinkage can be identified and discussed with you.
It may be that the carpet fittings are not secure and require correction.
Some carpets are more prone to shrinkage and may have to be cleaned by an alternative method but this would be thoroughly discussed with our client before any work proceeds.

So you can rest assured as a Fully Qualified and Trained Woolsafe technician you can put your trust in us!

Carpet Cleaning Misconceptions: No 3

Do you use chemicals to clean?

Despite what you may see advertised, every cleaning system uses some form of chemical to clean.

Even water is a chemical and forms the basis of most cleaning solutions.

An experienced cleaning technician will be using safe chemicals (our chemicals are woolsafe approved and we are proud to have been awarded GOLD MEMBERSHIP status from woolsafe (we may have mentioned this once or twice ha ha ) we will always rinse your carpet or upholstery to make sure that no chemical residues remain in the carpets or upholstery.

After all - water is invaluable to everyone, but does need a little helping hand to clean through dirt, grease, grime etc

Carpet Cleaning Misconceptions: No 2

Will my carpets take days to dry?

In short.......NO

Drying times for carpets and upholstery can vary greatly due to the following conditions:

The relative humidity in the home.
( A notoriously damp home will take slightly longer to dry )

How much ventilation is there in the home.
( Windows open will help with the drying process)

•How much soiling is contained within the carpet or fabric.
(Dirty carpets will need more water/chemical passes applying so will take a little longer than average soiled carpets)

•The competence level of the cleaning technician.
(not unnecessarily over wetting the carpet will obviously leave a shorter drying time)

•The moisture retention rates of the respective fibres - Wool, Nylon, Cotton, Polyester, Polypropylene, etc.
(Certain carpets will retain moisture longer than others - so this will need ton be taken into consideration too)

Despite all of above, the drying of carpets and upholstery can be achieved within twenty-four hours. In most cases the drying time for carpets is under two hours.

Carpet Cleaning Misconceptions: No1

Many home owners are  under the impression
that once you have your carpet or upholstery
cleaned then it gets dirtier quicker.......

Well......long, long time ago this statement was actually TRUE!

Inferior machinery and shampoos did cause this problem. BUT with new technology and quality cleaning solutions this problem can now be eradicated as long as your carpet cleaning technician is trained to a high standard and knows the correct solutions to use  that will not leave soil attracting residue in your carpets and upholstery.  Plus knowing the correct procedures to use is paramount.

As we are proud  GOLD members of the Woolsafe Organisation

http://www.woolsafe.org/uk/ you can guarantee that we are fully trained and insured to receive this award.

Unfortunately this professional result is not always possible when you hire or buy a DIY machine.

Further Misconceptions coming soon!...

Take care, Paula

7 REASONS TO CONSIDER HAVING YOUR CARPET CLEANED!

WARNING.... THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS QUITE GRAPHIC

Seriously! You will reconsider the 5 second rule after reading this!

1. The Norwalk virus or Norovirus (the virus that causes the stomach flu) can survive on an un cleaned carpet for a month or more.

2. Each year, several pounds of soil can accumulate in and under a carpet.

3. The five-second rule is a myth: bacteria can live after four weeks on carpet. And, thanks to “microbial adhesion,” germs such as the following are immediately transferred to food: Salmonella typhimurium, Campylobacter, and Salmonella enteritis, a nasty bacterium that causes horrible diarrhoea and vomiting.

4. Bed bugs can live in carpet fibres and wooden floorboards. For their size, they are extremely fast and can crawl more than 100 feet to obtain a blood meal, usually at night from people who are sleeping. Engorgement takes about three to 10 minutes yet people rarely realise they are being bitten

5. A person sheds about 1.5 million skin flakes an hour, most of which becomes embedded in our carpets.

6. Dust mites thrive in warm, humid environments, eating dead skin cells and nesting in dust-collecting carpet. The residue that mites leave behind can mix with dust and become airborne, which may cause allergies.

7. Now do you understand why it is so important for your health and not just appearance to have carpets  professionally cleaned a minimum of every 12 to 18 months?

Our next blog to follow is to alleviate the misconceptions of carpet cleaning... watch this space for further info.....And remember folks, sleep tight and don`t have nightmares!

November?

November

View from our Log Cabin
I know we say it all the time, but really! Where do the months go? Was it really 5 weeks ago that we were treating ourselves to a luxurious break at the luxurious CleveleyMere celebrating our Silver Wedding Anniversary?  What a find! Nestled away just off the A6 in Lancashire.

And here we are booking appointments in for December....it will soon be Easter!

Today 11th November -

Remembrance Day when we all remember that we owe our lives and freedom to many soldiers who fought for us. In the news recently was an article about WW2 veteran Harold Jellicoe Percival from Lytham who died in a nursing home aged 99. He had no living relatives and the funeral directors placed an announcement in a local paper requesting any servicemen who could spare the time to attend his funeral. Well with social; media as it is I was happy to see on the local news that hundreds of mourners attended his funeral. Nobody should have a lonely send off. Well done to all who attended.

Don`t think your carpets are dirty? Think again!

How to keep your carpets looking their best

Ok - you have just had your carpets cleaned or maybe just had new carpets laid, now how do you keep them looking their very best?

New carpeting or having carpets cleaned professionally isn't always cheap, so you need to protect your investment.

If you follow some of my simple but effective tips then your carpets will stay looking newer, fresher for longer.

* Regular, professional cleaning will really help prolong the life of your carpets. Deep down cleaning helps.

* Have a protective treatment applied to your new or newly cleaned carpet can help prolong the appearance and life of the carpet.

* Vacuuming on a daily basis helps prevent grit, dirt and dust accumulating and wearing away your carpet fibres.

* Using a good quality entrance mat in your hallway will help remove outside dirt  contaminating your carpets (don`t forget to vacuum it on a regular basis too).

* Deal with spillages as soon as they occur. DO NOT panic and throw any cleaning product that's comes to hand on the spill, you may cause permanent damage - follow these simple steps.

1. Soak up excess liquid/spill with a clean absorbent cloth i.e towel (not coloured), kitchen roll, tissues, napkins etc

2. Scoop/scrape any solid matter without spreading.

3. Use a professional all purpose spot remover (we can supply a bottle of this locally for £6.99) - Apply this to a cloth and then work from the outside in of the stain, and make sure you blot the stain and do not rub.

4. Once the stain has been removed you may dry the area gently with a hairdryer if required.

A more comprehensive guide to spot and stain removal will be coming soon!!

Hope this basic guide will help you with any carpet cleaning problems you may have. Don't forget we are only a phone call away for any questions you may have (0151 520 9405). Or if you would like to order a bottle of professional spotter just give us a call.

Any particular stain removal questions then please comment below and I will try to help!
